Researchers Pin Down PFAS Prevalence in Firefighter Gear

National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) examined chemicals in turn out gear that keep gear oil & water resistant. Many found to contain PFAS “forever chemicals” that cause cancer. Up to 400 times the PFAS used, is on the outer shell layer of gear. Regular use of turn out gear allows more PFAS to escape from the gear.
