Cancer has become the leading cause of deaths for firefighters. WGN TVLauren Jiggetts shares our story as well as the story of so many firefighters with cancer.
“Building materials have fueled fires to not only burn hotter and faster but also contain more toxins. And the turn out gear many firefighters wear for protection is often coated in PFAS. The chemicals make their gear water and oil repellent, but lawsuits filed across the country say it’s also contributing to a rise in cancer. S23F is not only spreading awareness about the increasing dangers firefighters face but also extending that loyalty and brotherhood beyond the firehouse.”
